  • Did You Hear? Mirna Bard is a SmartBrief Contest Finalist and Needs Your Vote!

Posted Oct 9th, 2010 By in Business, Social Media With | 19 Comments

A few weeks ago, SmartBrief, a well-respected media company used crowdsourcing for the first time to launch a competition giving their blog and newsletter readers a shot at joining their social media advisory board.

On October 1, they announced four finalists from close to 40 submissions, and I was one of the four selected! The other finalists were Jeremy Victor, Erik Deckers, and Mike Sansone. All finalists were asked to come up with a poll question and then analyze the poll results through a blog post for the SmartBlog on Social Media blog between October 6 and October 15. I was the lucky one to go first (ladies first?). My analysis posted on October 8.

    I need your help!

I am asking my entire community to help me win by voting for me to become the next social media advisory board member for SmartBrief. I would love to get your support and votes, only if you think I am worthy! There is absolutely no pressure, of course.

It is very simple to vote. Here’s what you have to do:

    1. Read my blog post and leave a comment if you choose.
    2. Sign-up for the SmartBrief on Social Media newsletter by October 14, 2010 October 17, 2010. Note: You must sign up for the newsletter by that date to vote.
    3. Please help spread the word to your community.
    4. Look for the October 18 newsletter in your email and vote for Mirna Bard.

    And, it’s that simple!

The winners will be announced on October 20. You can read more about the SmartBrief social media contest and learn more about the other contestants here.

Thank you in advance for your support, and I look forward to sharing good news on October 20!

  • Join Me On Facebook for “Fun Friday” Giveaways

Posted Sep 18th, 2010 By in Facebook, Social Networking With | No Comments

As you may already know, I launched my new Facebook page a couple of months ago.  My goal for this page is to educate likers on how to properly use the social web  for their business and to empower them to think of unique and creative ways to engage their audience as part of a long-term strategy.

On October 1, I will be announcing a huge giveaway exclusive to all likers of the page.  If you are not already a liker, I would love to have you as part of the community so you can join all the excitement!

A couple of weeks ago, I announced “Fun Friday” to give back to my community. This is my attempt to create a fun learning experience, get to know and educate my community as much as I can as well as give them an opportunity to get to know me better.  Every Friday, I post a trivia question or scavenger hunt at 9 a.m. Pacific.  The first person to answer the question or find the item I hide of the hunt, will receive a 1-hour complimentary phone/Skype consultation with me.

I already gave away three free consultations and all were extremely excited about what they learned just from a 1-hour phone call.  Below are the unsolicited comments they posted on Facebook and Twitter:

This week, Jarrett Gucci of Dynasty Web Solutions (the brilliant mind behind my Facebook page design and a WordPress WIZ) helped me come up with a fun scavenger hunt.  All participants had to find “Mini Mirna” (a small image of me) on Jarrett’s page, then double click my image to receive a social media tip (see images below).  The first person who reported the tip back on my page won the scavenger hunt.  There were approximately 30 people who liked Jarrett’s page to try to find me.

A lot of creativity and planning went into this, and I hope many of my Facebook likers learned a new fun way to engage their audience with social networking.  This is what it means to entertain, educate, and collaborate — all essential elements of social media.

There I am standing on top of the world!

It’s been a blast every week, and I hope a lot of you will join us every Friday and spread the word, please!

  • Case Study: Chef Zov Karamardian of Orange County Takes On Social Media

Posted May 15th, 2010 By in Blogging, Business, Case Studies, Social Media, Social Networking With | 4 Comments

Recently, I had the pleasure of connecting on Twitter and Facebook with Chef Zov Karamardian (@Zovs), an award-winning chef, restaurateur and bestselling cookbook author. Chef Zov jumped on the social media bandwagon a few months ago, learning and embracing as much as she can.Zovs

As part of her social media strategy, Chef Zov announced the “Make an Eggplant Proud Recipe Contest,” in which I became a finalist after submitting my favorite eggplant recipes.

The eggplant contest was only promoted through Zov’s blog, Facebook, and Twitter, resulting in over 30 recipe submissions. With the assistance of creative minds Marcie Taylor, Suz Broughton, and Frank Groff, Inc., Chef Zov turned the contest into an exciting offline affair. On May 12, several influential Orange County bloggers were invited for lunch at Zov’s Tustin location to taste and judge the recipes of the four finalists (See partial blogger list and finalists as well as my recipe below).

I am standing next to Chef Zov looking like and eggplant with my purple and black outfit (It was not planned!)

Chef Zov, Me (dressed like an eggplant, but unplanned), Jihan Assi (winner), Priscilla Willis, Yuko Graham

The winner (Jihan Assi) took home a plaque with a $100 gift certificate for Zov’s restaurant and will have her recipe featured as the “Special of the Day” at Zov’s Cafe in Tustin on Friday, May 28th. You can grab Jihan’s eggplant recipe on Zov’s blog. (more…)
