  • Are Christmas Card Traditions for Business Still Effective?

    Print Friendly

For modern business owners, sending out Christmas cards may seem like an old fashioned thing to do. In the past, doing business with customers was something that happened during face to face meetings, and relationships were built up over time.

Today’s business environment is much more fast-paced, and it’s possible to deal with a customer or a supplier over a long time without actually having met that person. Simply because the ways we do business have changed, it doesn’t mean that we should ignore the elements of building and maintaining relationships with the people and companies who have contributed to our success over the past 12 months.

Your business would die without its valued customers – it’s as simple as that. It takes a lot less effort and energy on the part of a business owner to keep a number of existing customers happy with your products and services than to have to find new ones. It’s a lot less expensive as well, and as a business owner you need to keep your eyes firmly on the bottom line when you are making decisions for your company.

Don’t forget your suppliers and the businesses that provide services to your when you are thinking about sending out Christmas cards. All of them had a part in supporting your business throughout the year, and they deserve to be recognized for their contribution.

Do send out Christmas cards to the people and companies who helped keep your business running smoothly or who stepped in to help when you were faced with a challenging situation. It’s a thoughtful way to acknowledge their contribution that is always in good taste.

Sending a Christmas card is a much more meaningful way to express your good wishes than sending an e-mail to the recipient. The fact that you thought enough of someone to take the time to choose and address a card, place a stamp on it and then put it in the mailbox tells them that they mean something to you. That feeling is becoming ever more rare in the hustle and bustle of modern life, where everyone is connected by numerous electronic means while feeling more disconnected from each other.

Take the time to make up a list of everyone who contributed to your business this year and send each one a personally addressed Christmas card. It’s a simple gesture that means so much to the recipient. No matter what has been going on in their world that day, they can stop and read a message wishing them peace, joy and love during this special time of year.

Reach out with Christmas cards for businesses. Not only is it good business, but making someone else’s day is always the right thing to do.

I really prefer to send out holiday cards since not everyone celebrates Christmas. I have also noticed that many service providers are now sending me Thanksgiving cards as well.

    Rob,

For a few years in a row, I would send News Years Cards. I think I am going to go back to that tradition. They probably stand out more than Christmas cards too. Happy Holidays!
