Took me awhile to get it going and to figure out what people responds to, but now I have good idea of what brings more fans and what translates into more business.

Just got my gravatar and want to see if it works!…

Regarding your poll: Yes, getting business from FB and my Blog, but most of all getting more business from my Tribe Network.

The best Facebook I have is a recent campaign for our client, Jazz in the Gardens. The Facebook fan page was a key element in our social media strategy and we added 9,300 fans in just over 4 months. We can’t attritube how many sales were a result of Facebook, but we do know it was very effective in keeping our fans informed of news about the event and we also know that it spread virally throughout Facebook.
Initially we used a few Facebook ads to get things going and then complimented this with an active Twitter campaign, badges on our website, and blogging.
A Facebook fan page by itself won’t produce much (unless you are a HUGE brand), but with a comprehensive social media campaign it is very effective.
On last thought. Most fan pages suck. They aren’t fan pages, they are a one-way outbound marketing page (propaganda). Fans won’t follow a page like that. Fans want an interactive, engaging, and informative conversation – that’s why it’s called social media, not just media.
As always, I wish all of you the best & brightest future

Not getting business *yet*, but I just launched it two or three weeks ago. It’s really difficult to expect to get business directly from social media. You have to put it out there, feed it, care for it, fertilize it, and it’ll grow. I’m up to 103 fans (mostly my friends). It’ll get there.

If you like my fan page, please become a fan too:

I am not getting business yet but I imagine it will take time and LOTS of work to get it going. Still trying things out to get people to participate and join. There are a lot of competition out there so I think the key will be to figure out a way to stand out to get noticed. Anyone have advice?

I created a Career4Change Facebook page about 2 months ago – http://tinyurl.com/yyju327 – after my personal site had grown beyond my friends to people I had started placing in restricted lists but that still wanted to know more about me and my business. It is too soon to tell how successful it will be but as my audience is mostly international I have used it as a bilingual platform to communicate with all and I am landing more Latino clients that want to have that personal touch in their relationship with a career coach. I’d learned from my blog that there are some topics hotter than others, so I am trying to transfer the learnings while learning a lot myself. I also participate actively in a few FB groups whose administrators have become allies which is a key help in growing the page at a slow but a steady pace.
I write my blog in English but I have the luxury of writing some of my page notes in Spanish. It is hectic but the intention is to create an inclusive place for all to share which is starting to happen.
You are more than welcome to pay me a visit.
    Best Wishes,
    Mariela
P.S. Mirna, I absolutely loved your 99 Social media quotes and I already inspired my latest FB note on one of them. Thanks for sharing them!

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. Thomas, I agree with you, you cannot expect to get business directly from Facebook. Many businesses have a misconception about social media because they follow the hype. Thus, my decision to have the poll. Using social media is a process not an advertising/marketing campaign.
